Leaving your group plan?


You may be eligible for a “conversion” plan.

Many individuals may not qualify for coverage due to health issues. A gap in health and dental coverage may mean significant out-of-pocket expenses for some families. ‘Conversion’ plans offer uninterrupted coverage without a medical questionnaire.

Within 60 days of termination from a group benefits plan you can apply for individual Extended Health and/ or Dental guaranteed coverage with no medical underwriting.


There are several plan options to choose from so that you can choose the coverage that best suits your needs and budget.

Q-I’m retiring, is there an age limit to apply for coverage under a Conversion plan?
A- No, there is no age limit to apply for Conversion coverage. Premiums for the coverage are age banded. 

Q- What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
A-There is no medical underwriting, acceptance is guaranteed (within 60 days of losing group coverage)

Q-What benefits are covered under a Conversion Plan?
A- Most Conversion plans offer coverage for the following:

  • Medical Equipment & Supplies
  • Nursing and Homecare Support
  • Vision Care
  • Hospital benefits
  • Registered Therapists and Specialists
  • Dental Care Services

Q-Do I have to use the same insurance provider that my group plan was with?
A- No, several insurance providers offer Conversion plans. You are not tied to the carrier your previous plan was with.

Q-Will the coverage be identical to the coverage under my group plan?
A- Coverage will not be identical to the coverage under the group plan; however, plans are comprehensive and cover most medically necessary expenses that individuals and families incur.
